About GCI

GCI’s businesses
GCI supplies creative products to various fields of industry, centering around the fields of chemical products and food products.

Chemical Products Business
Providing various fields of industry with functional materials using phenolic resin as a core
The chemical products business manufactures phenolic resin and the high-performance fiber Kynol, a phenolic resin fiber.
Phenolic resin is a thermosetting resin that cures with heat and has excellent heat resistance and flame resistance. Because of its characteristics, it is used in many fields of industry, including electronic materials, housing, automobiles, and molding.
In addition, because of its high heat resistance and less production of smoke, Kynol is used for firefighter garments or chemical production suits or seats for vehicles, such as airplanes and Shinkansen bullet trains, as well as space rockets.

Food Products Business
Providing a wide range of fields of food industry with functional sweeteners, including beverages, confections, and seasonings.
The food products business manufactures sugar products made from starch, grain extracts made from grain, and functional sweeteners. Gun Ei Chemical Industry has developed a unique technology allowing the unique taste of grain to come through. Various sugars produced through this technology have a variety of functions, including moisture-retaining ability, less sweetness, or ability to bring out the natural flavor of ingredients, as well as a sweetening function, and are essential materials for the manufacture of a wide range of products, including refreshing beverages, alcoholic beverages, confections, and seasonings.
In addition, toward business expansion in the “Field of Green” integrating both the chemical products and food products businesses to contribute to sustainable growth of society, Gun Ei Chemical Industry is committed to the development of systems to reduce our burden on the environment through the reduction of our CO2 emissions etc., the development and exploration of applications of environmentally-friendly products that could aid such systems, and the development of new products that utilize sugar materials from a perspective of chemistry.

Greening activities and initiatives for preventing global warming
GCI is committed to reducing our burden on the environment by planting trees within our business premises. In the National Award for Greenery Factory, which is awarded to factories with a proven track record in improving the environment inside and outside their premises through the promotion of greening activities, we received the JGRDC’s Chairperson’s Award in FY 2020 and METI Director-General’s Award in FY 2023 in high recognition of our activities to reduce our CO2 emissions, including greening of surrounding environments, such as rows of cherry blossom trees and greenery areas (36% of the site area) and the introduction of cogeneration equipment, as well as community interactions through the sponsoring of festivals and inviting local people or cleanup activities around the company.
In addition, to help prevent global warming, we work to reduce our energy usage in accordance with Japan’s Act on the Rational Use of Energy (Energy Conservation Act). As a result of these initiatives, we have been ranked as an S business operator*2 under the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy’s business classification evaluation system*1 up to the present since FY2015.

While publicizing and recognizing excellent business operators (S Class) in each industry, the Agency conducts strict inspections of business operators that are stagnant in energy saving (B Class) and the classes below.
- *2 [S Class business operator] = A business operator that has in its regular reports (as per the confirmation date at the end of fiscal year 2015) succeeded in achieving a reduction in five-year-average energy intensity of 1% percent or more per year (voluntary target) or has otherwise achieved benchmarked targets.[B Class business operator] = A business operator that has in its regular reports did not achieve the voluntary target and which has for the previous consecutive two years recorded an increase in energy intensity compared to the prior year or which has seen an increase in five-year average energy intensity of more than 5% per year.[A Class business operator] = A business operator that does not correspond to either S Class or B Class.[C Class business operator] = A business operator which, among B Class business operator is deemed to be making insufficient energy conservation efforts.
