Sustainability in the GCI Group

Sustainability Material Issues (Materiality)

To contribute to the achievement of SDGs, we at the GCI Group have identified our sustainability material issues (materiality) and work to address these issues.

Material Issue 1

Protection of the global environment

In addition to complying with laws and regulations on protecting the environment, we are also working to help create a recycling-based society, including measures to combat global warming.

  • 7.AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY
  • 13.CLIMATE ACTION
  • Development of continuous energy-saving activities

Since FY 2007, when we switched our fuel supply to natural gas, we have made efforts to reduce our energy consumption and CO2 emissions while making use of the various systems, including NEDO and ESCO.
As a result, we have been ranked as an S Class business operator, the highest class under the business classification evaluation system set out under Japan’s Act on the Rational Use of Energy (known as the Energy Conservation Act).

  • Development of eco-friendly products

In previous years, in the field of chemical products, we have actively taken on the challenge of developing products, including thermosetting biomass resin (which is made using plant-based raw materials) for the automotive industry, and environmentally friendly products for the insulating materials market and achieved the commercialization of such products.
In addition, in the field of food products, we have also introduced to the market new oat milk products that create a reduced burden on the environment during their manufacturing process.
We at the GCI group are committed to the development of further new products that combine environmental performance and functionality.

Material Issue 2

Cooperation with local communities

As a member of the local communities that support our activities, we aim to help create prosperous local communities and promote actively social contribution activities.
